The Philadelphia Cathedral
Of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania
The work at the Cathedral centered on structural stabilization of the exiting
wood floor. A system of steel beams, thru-bolts, and epoxy/steel connections
were added to the existing timber floor system. Interior renovations included
construction of a new Narthex; new interior finishes in the Nave; and reconstruction
of the Chancel. A new mechanical system provides both heat and air conditioning
for the new and renovated spaces. Construction of new ancillary spaces included
new Restrooms, Choir Room, Vesting Room, Mechanical Room and Electrical Rooms.
Another major element in the renovation of the interior space was the design
an installation of a new French Limestone floor in the Narthex, Nave and Chancel
and a circular Bishops bench, which was constructed on the Chancel from the
same limestone.
