This most recently completed project involved
four phases of interior renovations (while
occupied) to two of their Center City Philadelphia
buildings, comprising 38,000 GSF in total.
• Phase 1 included conversion of a
storage mezzanine into a state-of-the-art
rare book and paper conservation laboratory.
• Phase 2 included renovation of former
laboratory spaces into new offices, conference
rooms and staff workspaces as well as conversion
of a manuscripts mezzanine into a rare book
stacks, complete with gaseous fire-suppression
system.
• Phase 3 included conversion of over
16,000 SF of space from book shelving to
handicap accessible manuscript shelving,
some as high-density (mobile) shelving.
• Phase 4 of the project encompassed
renovations to all the public spaces of
the Library, including creating new security
processing areas, reception space, restrooms,
media room, book and manuscript workspaces
and a complete refurbishment of the main
reading room.
